Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast cancer is an illness that has affected families all around the world, and Bill McCandless Ford is joining the fight by partnering with two exemplary local organizations throughout the month of October. The staff at your Mercer PA Ford dealership is thrilled to announce that they have formed a triumvirate with the Oncology Patient Care Fund managed by the UPMC Community Foundation, and also Pink Angels, to raise awareness of breast cancer. The Oncology Patient Care Fund committee strives to provide helpful gifts and financial support to patients and families who are associated with UPMC Horizon Health System. Patients are offered a gas card to assist with travel expenses related to ongoing treatment, along with gift cards from either Walmart, Giant Eagle, or ALDI. Based on individual circumstances, patients may also receive special, customized gifts as recommended by their care team. Pink Angels, a local charity initiative started in 2009, “supplies financial assistance for things that medical insurance doesn’t cover,” according to organization member Barb Walton from a regional newspaper article outlining their efforts. “It provides gas cards so patients can drive to Pittsburgh or Cleveland for treatments, and money for necessities such as groceries and childcare,” Walton continued.

Here at Bill McCandless Ford, we donated $5 for every completed service order during the month of October, and a total of 574 service tickets were filled out at our dealership. Adding in the 530 service tickets completed by McCandless Ford Meadville, the two dealerships raised a total of $5,520, plus another $418 in donations from friends and family, for a grand total of $5,938!

We believe that the Oncology Patient Care Fund and Pink Angels are fighting an amazing battle against breast cancer and cancer in general, and we encourage our local community and customers to help further their philanthropic efforts. All funds raised this month will be dispersed evenly between these two fantastic alliances.
