You get into the driver’s seat, start the ignition, and your car acts like you didn’t do anything at all. That’s a sign that you either have engine problems or electrical problems, so you need to visit your Ford dealer to get your car diagnosed and repaired.

1. Faulty Fuses

You get into the car on a chilly morning and try to turn on the heat, but the cabin stays as cold as ever. That can be a sign that the fuse connected to the climate control has blown. If one of your car’s electrically powered functions stops working, but all the rest are fine, then you can usually put the problem down to a blown fuse. If more than one electrically powered function stops working, then you may even have a faulty fuse box that needs to be replaced.

2. Struggling Spark Plugs

You stop in traffic, but your engine vibrates as if you’re driving along a bumpy road. Rough idling is just one symptom of bad spark plugs. Others include engine misfiring, sluggish acceleration, and reduced gas mileage.

While you can drive if one or more of your spark plugs has failed, you’re not going to have a very smooth ride experience. You’ll need to get your bad spark plugs replaced, and the other spark plugs should be looked at in case they’re on their way out, too.

3. Worn Wiring

You notice your car seems to have blown a fuse, so you head to the dealer and get it replaced. A few days later, another fuse blows, so that’s another repair. You could have a faulty fuse box, but these fuse problems could also be down to bad wiring.

The wires may have become loose, or mice might have gotten at the wires and chewed on them, making them a little worn. Some wires may have been chewed through entirely. Other signs of faulty or worn wiring include a smell of burning plastic, faulty electronics, and the check engine light turning on.

4. Bad Battery

You try to start the car on a cold morning, but nothing happens. This is a sign that your battery has gotten too old to deal with the low temperatures, so it should be replaced. An old battery can die at any time, as can a faulty one. Some dying batteries can be jumpstarted so you can drive to the dealer, but you may have to be towed if your battery just won’t start no matter what you do.

Bring your car to Bill McCandless Ford in Mercer, PA to get all your electrical issues repaired. Coming by for regular maintenance will help you catch issues early and have them fixed before they cause major problems with your car.
